Protocol to remove hate graffiti

 Monday 17th September 2018

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

PROTOCOL TO REMOVE HATE PAINTINGS

The objective is to end only with messages that incite violence and that are visible in public or private spaces

The Calvià Town Hall, through the coordination of the Local Police of Calvià, the maintenance services and the public company Calvià 2000, has established a protocol to remove graffiti that incites hatred and violence. The objective is to preserve the dignity of people, and therefore eliminate discriminatory messages of xenophobic, racist content that promote attitudes contrary to gender equality, or another condition or personal, economic or social circumstance, especially when these messages are aimed at vulnerable groups.

The agents of the Local Police of Calvià will have to make a written and photographic report that has the maximum details about these hate graffiti. In the police report, special attention should be paid to the location, signature, tag, etc. This information will be part of a database that can be used to investigate and identify the authors of these hate paintings. Then, and under the supervision of a police officer, the graffiti will be removed in order to neutralise the negative message.
