'Paseo Calvią' between Santa Ponēa and El Toro

Friday 2nd November 2018

CALVIÀ WILL LINK SANTA PONÇA AND EL TORO THROUGH THE 'PASEO CALVIÀ' THAT WILL BE LENGHTHENED 5 KILOMETRES

The proposal has been approved with the 2018 sustainable tourism tax financing

Thus, one more section of the emblematic pedestrian promenade, which currently is 32 kilometres long and which connects most of the areas of the municipality, will be completed

With the "Camí del sud de Mallorca" project, presented by the Consell de Mallorca to the Sustainable Tourism Promotion Commission, which has taken on the proposal of the Calvià Town Hall, the municipality will have a new 'Paseo Calvià' section (Calvià Walking Promenade), thus connecting practically all the municipality by the emblematic pedestrian promenade that at the moment is about 32 kilometres long.

The project to be carried out by the Town Hall will link Santa Ponça, from the rei En Jaume avenue with the Isabel la Católica street, to Gran Via Penyes Rotges street in El Toro, which will go through the interior area.

The proposal's approval will allow to cover more than 60% of the project, amounting to 3.1 million euros, with funds from the sustainable tourism tax, the rest will be financed with municipal funds.

The 'Paseo de Calvià' is a pedestrian path that gives territorial cohesion to the municipality by joining most of the urban centres through a tree-lined pathway, with different urban furniture such as benches, exercise equipment, lighting, etc. It is widely used by both, residents and visitors as it offers the possibility of taking long trips through a pathway free of vehicles, adapted to people with reduced mobility, in a pleasant environment and surrounded by greenery.

In addition to the 'Paseo de Calvià' new section, also planned for this winter is the improvement of the section that goes from the Cala Figuera roundabout to Peguera, owned by the Balearic Islands Government, which will invest half a million euros so that later it can be received by the Calvià Town Hall and so it can enjoy the same maintenance as the rest of the 'Paseo'.
