CALVIÀ'S MAIN STREET IMPROVEMENT FORSEES THE SEMIPEDESTRIANISATION OF A SECTION AND THE DRAFTING OF A MOBILITY PLAN

The first phase of the project has been presented to the Calvià village residents this week

A meeting, convened by the Calvià Town Hall, was held last Wednesday to inform the neighbours of the first phase of the Calvià village's main street improvement project, which will mean a semi-pedestrianasation of a section of this Council of Mallorca-owned road which was handed over to the Town Hall, and that has a budget of 750,000 euros.

The section to be improved goes from Batle Jaume Martorell St. to plaza de la Vila, and the improvement works to be carried out will be: putting both, road and sidewalks at the same level, thus becoming an accessible and walkable road for people with reduced mobility, pushchairs, etc.

In addition, trees will be planted, and street furniture and LED lamp posts will be placed, turning it into a more walkable and pleasant street, with traffic restrictions. The wiring will also be buried and material will be placed according to the aesthetics of the Serra de Tramuntana villages. The plaza de la Vila will remain as a same-level single-open space.

The councillor for the areas of Calvià and es Capdellà, Andreu Serra, explained at the meeting that the improvement project will be accompanied by a mobility plan, which is being drafted and which will be discussed to the maximum consensus in a future meeting with the Calvià village residents, as well as an external car park. The objective, he added, is to make the centre of the village "more friendly'', taking into account its particularities, but also working to solve the mobility and parking problems».
