Measures to improve junk collection

THE CALVIÀ 2000 JUNK COLLECTION SERVICE INCREASES FROM 3 TO 5 THE BULKY ITEMS THAT CAN BE PUT OUT

-The objective is to reduce the number of abandoned junk withdrawals, which has risen by 21%

-The number of junk collections with prior request has increased from 5,750 to 6,528 from January to November

-The Town Hall has installed posters warning of the penalties for leaving rubbish lying on the street

The home junk collection service with prior appointment offered by Calvià 2000 has increased the allowed quota, which goes from 3 to 5 bulky junk items (furniture, mattresses, etc.). This is one of the measures that have been implemented with the aim of reducing the number of junk removals, junk that has been abandoned on public roads without prior notice, and that has risen by 21% between January and November 2018.

The number of home junk pick-ups with prior request has also increased, specifically by 13%, from 5,750 to 6,528 applications; however, this tendency is much lower than that experienced by the junk withdrawal on public roads, which goes from 9,631 to 11,724.

In total, the junk removed by the municipal company has almost reached 800 tonnes in the first nine months of 2018.

In addition to increasing the collection capacity, the Town Hall has installed, in certain points of the municipality in which junk is occasionally dumped, signs warning of the prohibition of leaving junk on the street and the penalties for doing so.

In this sense, the Police receives denunciations for dumpings that, after the corresponding investigation, can end in sanctioning acts, with fines that oscillate between 900 euros and 1.2 million euros, depending on the type of junk.

In addition to this service, it should be remembered that the Deixalleria or Green Point of the municipality, located at the Son Bugadelles industrial estate (Santa Ponça), is open from Monday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., where all kinds of junk can be taken.
