SUCCESS IN THE GALATZÓ TRAIL: MAGDALENA LACZAK AND DONALD CAMPBELL WON THE GALATZÓ LEGEND, AND AMANDA MARTÍN AND THOMAS OWENS WON THE HALF

700 athletes enrolled in the event

More than 20% have arrived from outside the Balearic Islands


The Galatzó Trail has been confirmed one more year as one of the best mountain races in the Balearic Islands. Polish Magdalena Laczak (Salomon Suunto Team Poland) has won the Galatzó Legend women's category after completing the 43 km-race in 05:16:02, while the Scottish Donald Campbell has done the same in the men's category with a time of 04:22:01. The local, Amanda Martin (Malfit Mallorcatrail), won the Galatzó Half with a time of 02:08:28, and the Scottish Tom Owens, who won the men's category, arriving at Sa Vinya square in Es Capdellà in 01:50:24.

The second edition of the Galatzó Trail, the mountain race organised by the Calvià Town Hall in collaboration with the Fundación Calvià 2004, has been a success. About 700 people have participated in an event that has brought together trial athletes of recognised trajectory in the Balearics and more than a hundred from outside the Balearic Islands. The organisation has highlighted the involvement of those who have participated and the support of people and collaborating entities as basic pillars since one more year the race has exceeded all expectations.

In the men's category, the Scottish Donald Campbell (04:22:01) has dominated the race from start to finish, beating the second placed David Calero Rodríguez (04:31:29) of the 'Compressport Switzeland' Club in almost 10 minutes and the local Sebastià Massanet Riera (04:37:33) ('Xendengets') in more than 15. Donald has removed the "bad feeling" of last year, in which after an untimely fall, he reached the 2nd step of the podium.

In the women's category, the Polish Magdalena Laczak ('Salomon Suunto Poland'), one of the international dominators of the mountain races won with a time of 05:16:02. The second place was for the Calvià athlete of 'Yais Calvià', Cristina Prats, who arrived emotional and who was very welcomed by the public in a time of 05:32:40. The third classified has been the Scottish Rachael Campbell, winner of the 2018 edition race, this time in 3rd place with a time of 05:48:01.

In the women's category, Amanda Martín ('Malfit Mallorca Trail' Club) has won the race with a time of 02:08:28, followed by the Austrian Sophia Moosbrugger ('Assics Frontrunner Austria') with a time of 02:12:33. The third position was for the Calvià's local legend Angie Rigo ('Sa Milana'), who stopped the clock in 02:16:50.

In the men's category, the Scottish Thomas Owens, who was coming out of an injury, got the victory with a time of 01:50:24, followed by the locals Miquel Rigo Rigo (01:53:35) in 2nd place and Miquel Amengual (01:53:35) in third place.

Early risers

The 43-km race started at 9 a.m. from Sa Vinya square in Es Capdellà, the entrance point of the municipality of Calvià to the Serra de Tramuntana, and the first classified arrived at 1.22 p.m. Its almost 300 participants crowned Galatzó and S'Esclop before returning to the village, where the finish line was also located. The start of the Galatzó Half took place at 10 a.m. and the 400 people who completed it went along the trails of the Galatzó estate until completing the 23 km before returning to the square. The first finisher crossed the finish line at 10.50 a.m. The awards ceremony was held at around 4 p.m., where the winners took a limestone trophy with the shape of the silhouette of both mountains.
