STEVE Project partners meeting

Monday 18th March 2019

WORK MEETING OF ADMINISTRATIONS AND ENTITIES PART OF THE STEVE PROJECT

Calvià is one of the 4 municipalities that are part of this pilot initiative promoted by the European Union for the promotion of sustainable transport

The partners of the STEVE project (Smart-Taylored L-category Electric Vehicle demonstration in hEtherogeneous urbanuse-cases) will meet on 19th and 20th March in Calvià to evaluate and monitor the actions surrounding this pilot initiative that promotes light, efficient and respectful mobility, and which the municipality of Calvià is part of along with the Italian cities of Turin and Venearia and the Austrian city of Villach. The each partner representatives meet every six months, and this will be the third meeting after the previous appointments in Turin and Munich.

At the meeting, the advances that have been carried out with the project will be presented. In the case of Calvià, the municipality is committed to promote electric bicycles in the field of tourism and to put companies and tour operators in contact with this means of eco.friendly mobility.

In this sense, proposals have been made for mountain tourist routes from Peguera to Cases de Galatzó and the Torrent de Santa Ponça, and road routes from Peguera to the historical centres of Es Capdellà and Calvià. Calvià receives a lot of cycle tourism, both in the municipality and in the mountain area of Galatzó towards the Serra de Tramuntana, especially during spring and autumn. The STEVE project offers the possibility of extending this means to other not-so-professional cycle fields, such as those for shorter journeys.

It is an opportunity for Calvià to have the 20 partners of the European projects (21 public and private entities from different countries of the European Union) visiting Calvià to first-hand see the possibilities of light vehicles in a destination with a climate such as the one that is enjoyed in the municipality.

Therefore, the first action to be taken, on the 19
th, will be an electric bike ride.
The objectives that Calvià has in relation to the Steve project are, amongst others, to promote sustainable mobility, raise public awareness on the need to be more respectful with the environment and commit to electric mobility. The STEVE project is financed by the European Union through the Horizonte 2020 programme.

The work meeting will take place at the Ponent Mar Hotel in Palmanova. On behalf of Calvià, the general director of Tourism, Trade, Coastline and Strategic Projects, Xavier Pascuet, will be the one in charge of explaining, on Tuesday from 4.45 p.m., the electric bicycles project which the municipality supports.
