ACTIVITIES TO RAISE AWARENESS ON POSIDONIA OCEANICA
The Calvià Town Hall, together with Creu Roja, and the GOB organise workshops at the different beaches of the municipality
One more year, different beaches of Calvià host during July, August and September various activities to raise awareness about the Posidonia Oceanica amongst the population and the people who visit the municipality's coastline.
From July to September, the Calvià Town Hall, through the Natural and Urban Environment Service, organises with the collaboration of Creu Roja Illes Balears a campaign in order to raise awareness and inform about the regulation of natural areas and protected species, mainly in what refers to Posidonia Oceanica.
26 information and environmental monitoring actions approaching the anchored vessels will be carried out at the beach of Portals Vells on Tuesdays and Fridays from July to September. The actions, which began on 2nd July, take place from 5 to 7 p.m.
Six environmental education workshops have also been planned within this campaign at the beaches of Palmira (Peguera), Santa Ponça, El Toro, Son Maties, Es Carregador (Palmanova) and s'Oratori (Portals Nous), which are aimed at beach visitors and bathers.
On the other hand, the Grup d'Ornitologia i Defensa de la Naturalesa de Balears (GOB) sets up an information point at the Santa Ponça beach, where workshops are also held to inform on the marine environment and to raise awareness on the Posidonia Oceanica habitat.
These workshops are held from Wednesday to Saturday. The calendar is as follows: on 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th July and on 14th,16th and 17th August , the schedule will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
