Sustainable development meeting with the Consell

Wednesday 2nd October 2019

Meeting of the Town Hall with the Consell de Mallorca on sustainable development issues

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, met yesterday afternoon with the Island Councillor of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Jaume Alzamora, to speak about the actions carried out together by both institutions.

The intention of the Town Hall and the Consell de Mallorca to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals is clear. In fact, Calvià Town Hall has adhered to the new Covenant of Mayors and Mayoresses for Climate and Energy, having completed the commitments of the first Pact 2013-2020 and being the first Town Hall of the Balearic Islands in compliance with them. Likewise, the Town Hall has reaffirmed its commitment to the 2030 agenda, the United Nations tool to work for human and sustainable development.

The meeting was also attended by the first deputy mayor, Nati Francés, and the insular director of Local Cooperation, Jaume Tomás.

Since September, the Island Councillor of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Jaume Alzamora, visits the Mallorcan municipalities and holds meetings with mayors, mayoresses and government teams throughout the island. Jaume Alzamora's Department intends to encourage all municipalities to write and implement an Action Plan for sustainable energy and climate (PAESC), while explaining the different aid lines of the Department and some of the actions that are proposed for 2020.
