Costa de la Calma sludge plant information meeting

Thursday 7th November 2019

INFORMATION MEETING TO EXPLAIN THE STEPS THAT ARE BEING TAKEN TO SOLVE THE BAD ODOURS PROBLEM IN COSTA DE CALMA BECAUSE OF THE SLUDGE PLANT

The councillor for Environment and for the area of Costa de la Calma meets with the neighbours

Explain the steps that are being taken to find solutions to the problem of bad odours from the sludge plant located in Calvià, is the reason for the meeting that was convened this afternoon at the request of the Costa de la Calma Neighborhood Association.

The councillor for Environment and for the area of Costa de la Calma, Marga Plomer, accompanied by technical staff of Calvià Town Hall, the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Mallorca Council explained all the steps that from both the municipality and the Consell are being carried out to solve and mitigate, currently, and until its closure in the future, the inconvenience caused by the activity of this plant, after the meetings held between both administrations.

Plomer has reported that in recent weeks the implementation of various measures announced in mid-September has accelerated. In this sense, the Mallorca Council has already set up the electronic sensor detection system that was already working, for example, in the Son Reus area, and which allows the odour emission indexes to be exhaustively measured in order to reduce the effects amongst the population.

There is also, on behalf of the Consell, the commitment to enhance communication between neighbours and the island institution and to protocolise the works that will be carried out at the plant depending on the weather conditions, to minimise bad odours.

Thanks to the implementation of these actions, the sludge treatment at the Costa de la Calma plant has already been reduced in recent weeks.
