Decree towards improving destination quality

Friday 17th January 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL VALUES THE APPROVAL OF THE DECREE TO COMBAT DRUNKENNESS TOURISM

Calvià Town Hall considers the approval of the Decree-Law against drunkenness tourism in order to improve the quality of tourist destinations, a measure that has received a green light today in the 'Consell de Govern', as an important step towards dealing with drunkenness tourism thus allowing the municipality to make headway more effectively towards the quality objectives that have been pursued for years within a framework of public-private cooperation.

Calvià Town Hall also considers that the decree, which includes various claims that have been made, indicates the need for a supra-municipal regulatory framework that would limit certain practices, and believes that the text approved today would forbid aggressive alcohol offers, free alcoholic drinks, and other activities such as party boats, pub crawling or other activities, and with this regulation it urges the various sectors involved such as accommodation, leisure centres, commerce and other activities to make an effort and work towards an improvement. It also highlights the importance of prohibiting denigrating activities especially towards women.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, recalls that for years this municipality had been asking for actions that would complement other ones already carried out on a municipal level. He believes that the decree  is a very important step which shows that Calvià's claims have been listened to, and that it will add to the efforts of all parties involved in moving forward towards the reconversion of the destination that now has no turning back. He is convinced that sooner rather than later, these efforts will bear their fruits.
