Thursday 27th February 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL PROGRESSES ON THE ACTION LINES TO MAKE COMPATIBLE THE PRESERVATION OF THE GALATZÓ PUBLIC ESTATE WITH AGRICULTURAL, LIVESTOCK AND PUBLIC USE

Collaboration with IBANAT is strengthened, with whom the Town Hall is already working closely on different actions at the estate

Calvià Town Hall is analysing the best way to guarantee sustainability in agricultural and livestock use, and the public use of the Galatzó public estate, which has an area of 14.013,500 m2, which is approximately 10 percent, of the municipality's territory, being one of the estates of greater extension of the Balearic Islands.

For this reason, the deputy mayor of Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, and municipal officials, met with the managing director of the Institut Balear de la Natura (Balearic Institute of Nature), Joan Ramon Villalonga, and those responsible for the management of public farms of the forest management service, to learn more on the management models that are carried out in the public farms of the Government of the Balearic Islands and that are managed by the IBANAT.

The objective of this meeting was to analyse and assess the actions and measures of public intervention that are carried out to guarantee the maintenance of agricultural and forestry farms in a sustainable way and to draw conclusions to be able to define the action lines in the management of the public farm of Galatzó.

As Sedano said, this meeting has been beneficial as it has discussed the strengths, weaknesses and complications of maintaining a public estate when it comes to guaranteeing and maintaining the agro-livestock uses of a farm, making them compatible with its conservation and guaranteeing public use. In this context, different strategies to be followed for the Galatzó public estate were assessed, while collaboration with IBANAT has been strengthened in the management of the maintenance of fire prevention areas and other actions to improve the natural environment of the Galatzó estate. Likewise, the different lines of present and future aids to which the municipal property could benefit from were discussed.
