Calvią Town Hall remove the boat stranded on beach

Calvià 15th April 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL STARTS WORKS TO REMOVE THE VESSEL STRANDED ON SON MATIES BEACH

The dismantling works are carried out due to the passivity of the owner, to whom the cost of the removal will be demanded

The removing tasks of the boat on Son Maties beach, in Calvià, have begun this week, which are carried out by the dismantling method as a removal by sea or road is impossible.
Calvià Town Hall decided to open an emergency procedure for the removal of the yacht due to the passivity of the owner, despite the constant requests made by the Council to assume his or her responsibility. The cost amounts to 78,650 euros that will be claimed from the owner.
The dismantling comprises different phases that have begun with preliminary preparatory works, with a detailed inspection of the vessel and an inventory of materials, possible hazardous materials and reusable equipment.
Once this phase is completed, the hazardous materials will be removed following all the safety regulations regarding the removal of this type of material. Then, removable and accessible materials will be removed, such as textiles, furniture that is not part of the boat structure, household appliances, decorative elements, etc. Once these works have been carried out, cuts and dismantling will start from top to bottom, to end with the cutting of the entire structure into pieces.
During the work, special attention will be paid, at all times, to any possible accidental fall of waste into the sea or onto the beach, which will be quickly collected and a cleaning of the area will be carried out at the end of each day. Likewise, the removed material will be transferred to waste management for final management.
