Tuesday, 12th May 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL ACTIVATES THE SECOND PHASE OF THE CARE AND SUPPORTIVE PLAN FOR THE ELDERLY LAUNCHED DUE TO THE STATE OF ALARM
A team of municipal workers contact people over 65 to give them support and detect possible needs arising from the confinement

Calvià Town Hall is contacting all the older people in the municipality by telephone these days to provide them support and listen to their needs that may have arisen as a result of the confinement. L'Ajuntament al teu costat is the second phase of the care and supportive plan for older people that, from the Department of Social Development, Childhood and Senior Citizens, was launched at the beginning of the state of alarm.
A team of 35 workers from the Town Hall have joined, many of them from other municipal departments, to make calls in which older people are listened to and those possible needs arising from confinement are detected. Along with this team, there are also two psychologists from the Department of Social Development available to people who need special support. About 7,000 people, over 65 years of age, whose telephone number is on the municipal register, are being contacted, 4,500 of them are Spanish or Catalan speaking and about 2,500 are foreigners. Therefore, the municipal International Community service is avaailable to speak to residents who do not understand or have difficulty understanding either of the two official languages.
Calvià Town Hall launched, at the beginning of the state of alarm, a care and supportive plan for the elderly, prioritising the most urgent cases of loneliness or social isolation that were already detected by Social Services or those that could have signs. In addition, a campaign was carried out on social media so that the residents who knew of a case could bring it to the attention of the Town Hall. Within the framework of this plan, home care services (SAD) and home food delivery services, amongst others, were also expanded.
