Monday 27th July 2020

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

REPORTS HAVE BEEN DRAFTED FOR THIRTEEN BUSINESSES OF CALVIÀ FOR BREACHING THE REGULATION RELATED TO THE PREVENTION OF COVID-19

Last week, police officers had to close every day the access to some coves of Calvià to avoid crowds

Calvià Local Police officers, together with the Civil Guard and inspectors from the Balearic Government, carried out an inspection campaign over the weekend to check whether the regulations regarding the plan of exceptional measures to deal with the pandemic are being complied with. This action, in addition to the one that the Local Police implements the rest of the days of the week, has resulted in the drafting of thirteen reports. Six have been drafted for establishments dedicated to the bar and / or restaurant service in the areas of Santa Ponça, Magaluf, El Toro, Portals Nous and Palmanova. One of the businesses is located in Punta Ballena, which remained open on Tuesday when business activity is temporarily prohibited on this street. The General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior of the Regional Ministry of Public Administrations could classify this non-compliance as a very serious infringement that may entail sanctions ranging from 60.001 € to 600.000 €, in addition to the possibility of closing the premises.

Reports have been drafted for four of the food establishments for not complying with the sanitary preventive measures of Covid-19, such as lack of hygienic conditions in the kitchen and personnel area, lack of information on the maximum capacity in the toilets or for not having hydroalcoholic gel, for not maintaining the social distance, for staff not wearing the surgical mask correctly or for using glass cleaners as a disinfectant. Another report has also been drafted, in this case for a kebab restaurant, not for hygienic reasons, but for not showing the enabling title and compulsory liability insurance.

On the other hand, reports have been drafted for five bars and nightlife premises in Santa Ponça. The most common offenses they have committed are allowing customers to be at the bar after 10 p.m., failing to comply with safety distances, staff not wearing the surgical mask correctly, or not displaying the maximum capacity sign at toilets. Moreover, reports have been drawn up for a premises in Magaluf for not complying with the closing hours dictated at 2 in the morning. In this same area, a tattoo business will be proposed for fine for not complying with prevention and containment measures to deal with the crisis caused by COVID-19.

On the other hand, Calvià police officers have drafted 37 reports in the last week for not wearing or not using the surgical mask correctly when it is mandatory. This type of infraction has had a special incidence in the Magaluf area.

Beaches

It should be added, in addition, that the Local Police has maintained the beach operation to control that the necessary distance between people is complied with according to current regulations. Unfortunately, every day last week, access to some coves on the Calvià coast has been temporarily limited. Crowds have been avoided in the Comtessa, Xinxell, Buganvíl • lea, Balneari d'Illetes, Oratori de Portals Nous, El Mago and Portals Vells coves. Normally the capacity allowed is covered at noon, so access is not allowed again until after 6 p.m.

Since this fact is recurrent since recreational bathing is allowed, the Calvià Town Hall suggests that bathers choose to go to the large beaches of the municipality where there are no problems with crowds or, as a minimum, avoid going to the mentioned coves during the central hours of the day.

Coexistence

Calvià police officers have carried out various actions to promote coexistence in Calvià and against drunkenness tourism. Establishments and visitors to the streets of Punta Ballena, General García Ruiz, Federico García Lorca, Avenida de Magaluf, Plaza Pitiüses and adjoining have been monitored and controlled, to avoid crowds on the street and comply with current regulations with presence in the premises with greater influx of customers, control establishment closings and pedestrian surveillance on nearby beaches where young people go to drink more after the closure of leisure venues. Thus, in the last week, six reports have been drafted for bottle parties on the beaches of Magaluf and Es Carregador in Palmanova, and two reports have been drawn up for fights on the street in Magaluf.

In Portals Nous, two reports have also been drafted for uncivic behaviour. Likewise, three people have been arrested in the last week for alleged crimes against public health. A report has also been drafted for inconvenience arising from a party in Santa Ponça, for a case of balconing and two for middle-aged women for lack of respect for authority.

Other incidents

Thanks to the public alert, police officers were able to arrest a 31-year-old man who attacked his partner early in the morning from Saturday to Sunday, threatened her and fled with her phone, apartment keys and documentation. The case is now in the hands of the Civil Guard that takes over.

On the other hand, the Calvià Local Police have collaborated with a hotel establishment in Magaluf to expel eight clients who caused damage and caused discomfort, and who finally voluntarily agreed to leave. Also last week the agents dismantled a hammock camp in Caló des Monjo (Peguera).

Finally, in the last seven days, 11 complaints have been filed at traffic controls for exceeding the speed limit and a positive drug test has been reported.
