Agreement to provide free prescription glasses

Calvià 29th July 2020

BOTH, CALVIÀ TOWN HALL AND SPECSAVERS ÓPTICAS SANTA PONÇA SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE FREE PRESCRIPTION GLASSES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE IN A SITUATION OF GREATER VULNERABILITY

The municipal Social Services will transfer the detected needs

Both, Calvià Town Hall and Specsavers Ópticas Santa Ponça have signed a collaboration agreement this morning to provide prescription glasses to people who have vision problems and who are in a situation of greater vulnerability, with difficulties in acquiring the glasses.

The deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality Nati Francés, with the attendance of the councilwoman for Social Development M. Carmen Rojano, and Andrés Román Romero of Specsavers Ópticas Santa Ponça, have signed the one-year validity document, with the possibility of extending it for one more year. The municipal Social Services will be in charge of transferring the applications after detecting the most urgent and necessary cases. For its part, the optic shop will provide free prescription glasses to these people derived from the Town Hall and, in addition, it will carry out campaigns that promote the free donation of prescription glasses to people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability.

Specsavers Ópticas Santa Ponça has been committed for many years to supporting social organisations in Majorca and also to international non-profit organisations. At the moment, this optic shop has donated around 2.500 frames to humanitarian entities in Africa, which are distributed in areas where access to visual care is limited.

It has also raised more than 1.500 € for organisations such as The Dogs Trust, SOS Calvia, Kidney Research and ONCE Foundations. Furthermore, they have worked with the Calvià Lions Club since 2012 to collect disused glasses. Also, in 2012, it agreed with Ses Quarterades Public School to carry out a free visual examination and provide the boys and girls of the school with free glasses for every 500 that are purchased at the optic shop, thus offering a continuous supply of free glasses for boys and girls and their families.
