Residents evacuated from the Llar of Calvià due to a fire were rehoused in public network centres
They have been temporarily relocated to the Llar d'Ancians, the residence Oms Sant Miquel and Domus Vi in Palma
Fifty-three residents of the municipal Senior Citizens' Home of Calvià have been temporarily relocated to various residential centres of the Public Dependency Care Network. The fire registered on Friday 21st August, in the electrical panel of the municipal residence forced the evacuation of all residents and staff, who were rehoused due to the spreading of smoke. Fortunately, no personal injury occurred.
Calvià Town Hall, the Mallorca Council, from the Institut Mallorquí d'Afers Socials and the Regional Ministry for Social Affairs and Sports have jointly coordinated from the first moment to relocate affected residents, many of them in a situation of dependency. Both, the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the president of the IMAS, Javier de Juan; the Regional Minister for Social Affairs, Fina Santiago and the Director General of Dependency, Gregori Molina, have worked on the temporary relocation of these people to other residential centres until they can return to the Llar of Calvià.
Thus, 32 residents have already been transferred to two residences of the Consell de Mallorca managed directly by the IMAS; 16 to the Llar d'Ancians and 16 to the Oms / Sant Miquel residence, and another 21 have been relocated to the Domus Vi residence, also in Palma. All the people who have been relocated are being cared for by the Llar reference support and nursing staff who are moving to the different centres, as well as the doctor who is at the disposal of the residences' doctors.
The fire occurred in the electrical panel of the Centre, which produced a lot of smoke and forced the relocation of the residents. The Mayor of Calvià moved to the Llar together with the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion, Nati Francés, and the Councilwoman for Social Development, Childhood and Elderly, M. Carmen Rojano; who, along with the manageress of the Llar, M. Carmen Pérez Blasco, attended the residents and began the coordination to relocate them. While they waited to be transferred to other centres, they were momentarily taken to the Town Hall to attend to them in suitable conditions. The assessment of material damages has already begun to begin repairs. It is expected that within a month the Llar of Calvià can return to normality.
