Initial approval of the Waste Collection Ordinance

Tuesday 6th October 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL PROPOSES THE MODIFICATION OF THE WASTE COLLECTION ORDINANCE TO UNIFY THE RATE AND UPDATE THE RATE STRUCTURE

This modification implies a zero rate increase and a discount for areas where collection through the door-to-door system has recently started

The plenary session has initially approved the modification of the Waste Collection Ordinance that contains, in general terms, two aspects: the unification of the collection and incineration rates, and the updating of the rate structure.

The ordinance, which will be applied in 2021, envisages a ZERO rate increase, and there will even be certain segments that will see a decrease in their bills thanks to the implementation of the selective collection system, which is carried out in Calvià village and Es Capdellà through the door-to-door system, in the urban area, and in rural homes through the contribution areas.

Another novelty envisaged in the Ordinance modification is that homes with a tourist rental licence must be taxed as a tourist establishment and not as ordinary housing, as up to now.

Looking ahead to 2021, it is estimated that there will be a rate deficit of 194.321,29 euros. Facing such an economically complicated situation in the municipality, derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, Calvià Town Hall has decided that this deficit will be paid by the council and that it does not end up on the bills of the residents in the municipality.

The rate has been frozen since 2012 and it was in 2016 when a review was made in which the quotas for the productive sector (bars, restaurants, cafeterias, commercial premises and supermarkets) were lowered, which in 2012 had suffered increases in its fees of up to 100%.

In this same line, Calvià Town Hall has already launched a recalculation for this year, with a reduction of up to 50%, of the waste collection service rate for the productive sector that this year has suffered a stoppage in its economic activity due to the Covid-19 crisis. An action that is included in the agreements of the Calvià Social, Economic and Environmental Recovery Plan signed by the Town Hall with all municipal political groups, hotel associations, majority unions and Trade (ACOTUR), Catering (CAEB-Catering) and Leisure (ABONE) associations.
