Treball Solidari microcredits are expanded

Thursday 12th November 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL RENEWS FOR ANOTHER YEAR THE 'CONFÍA' MICROCREDITS PROGRAMME OF THE TREBALL SOLIDARY ASSOCIATION FOR THE SELF-EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN OF THE MUNICIPALITY IN A SITUATION OF VULNERABILITY

This year it includes two novelties: microcredits for families for emergency situations and microcredits for the self-employed and SMEs

Calvià Town Hall has signed a collaboration agreement with the Treball Solidari Association that will extend the Confía programme that is carried out in the municipality through which women in the municipality of Calvià in a situation of social and / or financial exclusion have the opportunity to access the microcredits programme for self-employment carried out by the social entity.

The agreement has been signed by the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the director of the Treball Solidari Association, Antoni Sierra. The agreement signing event was also attended by the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the councilwoman for Social Development, M. Carmen Rojano; the general director of Social Development, Cristina Gamundi, and Mònica Ferrà, deputy coordinator and technician of Treball Solidari.

Through the Confía programme, microcredits are granted to women in the municipality in vulnerable situations so that they can develop a business idea and work on it to make it viable. The objective is to allow them to get out of the situation of economic vulnerability in which they find themselves.

The programme has helped 94 women in vulnerable situations who have wanted to start a work project, since 2016.

Microcredits do not need guarantors, since, unlike commercial banks, they are based on the trust placed in the work carried out by women users to carry out their project. The money is returned in installments acceptable to the users.

Microcredits for families, the self-employed and SMEs

The Town Hall contributes 33.950 € for the development of this programme in the municipality. The novelty this year is that apart from the agreement, an addendum has also been signed that authorises the use of the remnants of the 2016-2019 agreements to carry out new ways to help in emergency situations and the strengthening of small companies and income generator activities.

A part of the remnants will be reinvested in the Confía programme. The start-up of two new lines of microcredits is also authorised: for families in vulnerable situations and for companies in the municipality:

• In the first case, these are microcredits for families in the municipality in vulnerable situations, to whom the money will be used for emergency situations. These microcredits will have a maximum amount of 600 €, and referrals to Treball Solidari will be made from the Social Services of the municipality.

• In the second case, these are microcredits for small and medium-sized companies and self-employed workers based in Calvià with significant financial difficulties due to the crisis caused by Covid-19, and which the commercial banks have denied them access to credit. These microcredits will have a maximum amount of 5.000 €, and referrals will be made from the Training and Employment Institute of Calvià (IFOC).
