A solidarity and participative Christmas in Calvią

 Friday 13th November 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL WILL ALLOCATE THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS' BUDGET TO THE MOST VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY

Calvià proposes festivities with the collaboration of the associative fabric of the municipality and focused on solidarity with families, entertainment and revitalisation of commerce and restaurants

Calvià Town Hall proposes special festivities in which solidarity, collaboration, imagination and the dynamisation of commerce and restaurants will be the axes on which the Christmas activities will be supported in this unusual year.

Solidarity actions

The decision of the municipal government team to allocate the 130.000 euros of the budget planned for the installation of Christmas lights to social actions, will allow the 1.257 families in vulnerable situations, who receive the support of the Social Services of the Town Hall from the beginning of the pandemic, have, on the one hand, an extraordinary contribution in the wallet card for food products, and, on the other, a contribution for gifts for children. The idea is to complement on these dates the aids they receive to cover basic needs, which from March to 8th November have meant a total of 1.092,453 euros of which 90% have been allocated to food aids.

In this way, extraordinary aids will be provided for typical food of the Christmas season, which will range from 25 euros to 83,75 euros, depending on the number of members of the family unit. In addition, families with children will receive an extra 35 euros for each child, so that they can have a toy or gift during these holidays.

Another of the planned actions that will appeal to the solidarity of the municipality is the 'Apadrina un juguete' initiative that would be carried out in collaboration with SOS Mamás, so that residents of Calvià get involved in helping families that are in a more complicated situation.

Dynamisation of the municipality

Calvià does not renounce, however, that this Christmas continues to shine in the municipality, and for this the participation of the associative fabric will be important.

The Mayor's Office, Citizen Participation and the affected municipal departments, will hold meetings with the neighbourhood associations of the different Calvià areas and the AMIPAS of the school centres in which their collaboration will be requested to carry out solidarity and dynamisation activities, and they will listen to their proposals transferred to the Town Hall.

Precisely, one of the novelties that will be raised will be the balconies and house facades Christmas decoration competition, which will require the involvement of the associations to encourage citizen participation. An activity that is linked to the shops and bars and restaurants decoration competition that is now in its third and second editions, respectively.

The revitalisation of these productive sectors will count, one more year, with the issuance of free ballots so that the customers of the establishments participate in a one-thousand-euro draw. And, for the first time, a 'Mostra de Cuines de Nadal' will be organised in which restaurants in Calvià will offer, throughout the month of December, menus at special prices.

The Libraries of Calvià will carry out virtual activities for the little ones during their holidays: workshops and storytelling related to Christmas and a daily radio programme in which children will be the protagonists.

During these dates the cultural programming will be expanded and in the sports field the Christmas festivities will also bring fun surprises.
