VISIT TO THE CONSTRUCTION WORKS OF THE NEW CALVIÀ CEPA BUILDING
The building, financed by both administrations, will replace the old centre located in a municipal premises also in Magaluf
Currently, the CEPA of Calvià has a student body of more than 800 people
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the regional minister for Education and Vocational Training, Martí March, visited today the construction works of the new Adult Education Centre building in the municipality. The visit was also attended by the deputy mayor for Education, Olga Granados, the first deputy mayor, Nati Francés, the Magaluf councillor, Marc López, as well as the general director of Planning and Centres, Antoni Morante, the general director of Vocational Training and Higher Artistic Education, Antoni Baos, and the CEPA Calvià manageress, Francisca Muñoz.
The works began a few weeks ago and have an execution period of eighteen months. The project involves a total investment of 4.495.628 euros, financed 50% by Calvià Town Hall and the Government of the Balearic Islands, within the framework of the collaboration agreement between the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Town Hall. The Town Hall has been in charge of putting out to tender the construction project.
The centre is built on a 5.194 m2 plot located at the confluence of Galió and Góngora streets in Magaluf and will have two floors (ground floor and first floor). The new building will have 2.166 m2 built, with ten multipurpose classrooms, four workshops, a socio-sanitary workshop and kitchen, a laboratory, a library, offices, departments, a teacher's room and a multipurpose space.
The mayor of Calvià has highlighted the importance of building a new adult education centre, because the conditions of the current building are not desirable. For Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, "working for education is also dignifying educational spaces."
Martí March, on his behalf, pointed out "the important role that educational centres have for adults when it comes to creating new training opportunities, given that they favour alternative work lines, in addition to contributing to the permanent education of citizens."
Both, mayor and regional minister have valued the collaboration between both administrations due to the commitment it represents for second-chance policies in training stages, as well as the process of continuous training throughout life.
New adult centre
CEPA Calvià is an education centre for adults created thanks to an agreement between the Regional Ministry of Education and the Town Hall. It has a very wide training offer, from literacy groups, training cycles, university entrance exams preparation groups to language courses, etc.
CEPA Calvià's geographical scope is also very broad: it includes the entire Andratx area (s'Arracó, Andratx, Puerto de Andratx) and the Calvià area (El Toro, Magaluf, Portals, Santa Ponça, Palmanova, etc.). It currently has more than 800 students, half of those studying regulated studies.
The new CEPA will replace the old municipal building in Sa Porrassa, which has space problems and cannot attend to current needs.
State-of-the-art methodology
The new building project, designed by Calvià Town Hall, has incorporated the BIM (building information modelling) methodology into the public tender for the first time. It is a new work system based on digitisation and collaboration between agents throughout the entire life cycle of a building or infrastructure. The implementation of this methodology represents a radical change in the traditional way of working in the construction sector, since collaborative work entails savings in costs and time and an increase in quality.
