The Mallorca Golf Open is now a reality and has been presented in society. The best international professional golf will return to Mallorca at the hands of e | motion group. The tournament will be held from 21st to 24th October this year with a prize pool of 1 million euros. The Mallorca Golf Open will be played at Golf Santa Ponsa I and will be the last of the so-called “Spanish tour” tournaments of the European Tour.

Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e | motion group: "We are very proud that, after the ATP Mallorca Championships, we have managed to bring another top-level sporting event to Santa Ponça with the Mallorca Golf Open. This has only been possible thanks to the great collaboration with the European Tour, with the support of local authorities, amongst which are the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca and Calvià Town Hall, as well as the Balearic Golf Federation, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and Golf Santa Ponça. With this tournament, one of the most attractive golf destinations on the island is once again the centre of world sporting interest ".

Alfonso Rodriguez, mayor of Calvià: “The potential that the destination has to host events of these characteristics implies not only a direct economic impact for the municipality, but also an impact as a destination brand. Bringing in a European Tour tournament will make Santa Ponça, Calvià and Mallorca reappear amongst golf destinations. Also grateful for the involvement of institutions and private entities, knowing that the sum of public and private efforts will give good results. "

Rocío Nigorra Cobián, president of Golf Santa Ponça: "Golf Santa Ponça is very happy to be able to host a European Tour event in Mallorca again after such a long time. For us it is a real priority, especially at this time, to provide enthusiasm and joy in Mallorca with an international event of such magnitude. We hope to welcome all players, volunteers and sports lovers to enjoy this great sport with us. We firmly believe that this tournament will write another chapter in the success history of golf in Mallorca. I also want to take the opportunity to thank in particular all the golf course workers who are putting a great effort and work so that the course is in the best of conditions. We are prepared thanks to them despite the short time we have had and are delighted to help. This event puts Mallorca back into the international spotlight. I also want to thank the support from all golf courses".

Andreu Serra, regional minister for Tourism and Sports: "It is a clear commitment to sports tourism and with the intention of "de-seasonalising" and extending the cultural and sports leisure season in Mallorca. With the Golf and Tennis events we put the islands on the international scene. We have also achieved a milestone in public and private initiative and this has only just begun. This also shows a clear path of evolution of the tourism model where sport and experience are key. We are leaders in sun, beach and sustainable tourism''.

Rosana Morillo, regional government's general director for Tourism: “With the collaboration of the public and private sectors is how great successes are achieved and this is proof of it. We have a strong recovery plan that will give good results and 2 million are planned for non-summer event sponsorships. The economic impact that these events have on the islands exceeds 200 million euros and we understand that it is a good investment since they are events that also bring quality tourism in the low season”.

The president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Gonzaga Escauriaza: “I have wonderful memories of this golf course that has always been very present in the development of golf in Spain. Our relationship with the local authorities is very good and they have been very positive in the negotiations for the organisation of this event in such a short time. Very grateful to all and happy to return to Mallorca ”.
