Melis and Prats win the Galatzó Trail

TONI MELIS AND CRISTINA PRATS WIN THE 2021 GALATZÓ TRAIL AND ARE PROCLAIMED BALEARIC CHAMPIONS

Amanda Martín and Damián Ramis win the GALATZÓ HALF.

Toni Melis Tous and the Calvian Cristina Prats Vidal have won the 2021 edition of the Galatzó Trail in the 43-km race (GALATZÓ LEGEND) and are therefore the new Balearic champions of 'Curses per muntanya en línia 2021'. Damià Pons and Amanda Martín have won the Galatzó Half (23 km).

The GALATZÓ TRAIL 2021 had 2 distances, Galatzó Legend, a 43-km mountain marathon and a valid test for the FBME Balearic Mountain Racing Championship and the Galatzó Half, a 23-km mountain half marathon.

The international mountain race in Calvià was held this Sunday morning at the Galatzó Public Estate. The competition, refereed by the Federació Balear de Muntanya i Escalada (FBME), had on this occasion more than 600 participants, undoubtedly a great figure, taking into account the circumstances in which it is held on this occasion. Out of the total number of people registered, almost 17% were international athletes.

The weather finally respected for most of the race, and it was not  an obstacle for the more than 600 people registered  to enjoy a great mountain race at the Galatzó Public Estate.

 

GALATZÓ LEGEND
More than 200 people registered in this spectacular and demanding race. The objective is to run 43 km on a one hundred percent mountain terrain, with a positive ascent of 2.325 m and a total of 4.650 m of accumulated altitude. The challenge started at 8.30 a.m. from Plaça Sa Vinya in Es Capdellà, the gateway to one of the most emblematic places of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Galatzó Public Estate, the area where most of the the race took place.

The first mountainous obstacle to overcome in the morning was the most demanding, the emblematic Puig de Galatzó (1.027 metres). Once the first summit was crowned, the most technical part of the race, runners began a steep descent to face the second important ascent of the day, which would take them to the top of Sa Mola de s'Esclop (927 metres). From there, the tour continued towards the houses of the Galatzó public estate. A few kilometres from the public estate was the last demanding ascent, Ses Planes. Once the ascent was completed, the descent began towards the starting point and also the finish line, located in Plaça de Sa Vinya in the pretty village of Es Capdellà.

GALATZÓ LEGEND Official Results:
In the men's Galatzó Legend, the victory went to Toni Melis Tous (04:31:22) of the Krupikets club, who was proclaimed Balearic Islands champion of Curses per Muntanya en línia. Pep Joan Serra (04:33:14) entered the finish line in 2nd position, of the Atletisme Diaita club, while Hamal Villar Lázaro (04:33:49) of the Món Aventura club completed the podium. The race podium coincides with the 'Campionat de Balears de Curses per muntanya en línia' podium.

In the women's Galatzó Legend, the victory went to Cristina Prats Vidal (05:44:57) of the Mallorca Dalt de tot club followed by Lida Grimalt Fuste (05:46:49) of the CE Palmarunners club and Cati Vives Vives (05: 50:20) of the Xendenguets club.

As in the men's category, the race podium coincides with the 'Campionat de Balears de Curses de muntanya en línia' podium.

GALATZÓ HALF (23 KM)
The Galatzó Half, a 23-km race with a positive ascent of 925 m, started at 9.30 a.m. The more than 400 registered people left from Plaça de Sa Vinya in Es Capdellà to enter the Finca de Galatzó. The route ran through some of the most spectacular trails on the estate, passing through outstanding points such as Comellar de ses Sínies, Boal de ses Serveres, and Sa Coma del Vidal, from where the return to Es Capdellà finish line began.

In the men's Galatzó Half, the victory went to Damián Ramis Pons (01:35:48) of Team Brooks Trail Running, the second place went to Erik Simkovics (01:48:09) of the OLC Wienerwald club, while Antoni Mir (01:55:07) of Diaita athletic club completed the podium.

In the women's Galatzó Half, the victory went to Amanda Martín (02:07:27) of the MALIFT Mallorcatrail club followed by Lauren Woodwiss (02:12:26) and Emma Stefansson (02:13:29) of the OLC Wienerwald club in third position.

THANKS
The Galatzó Trail organisation thanks each person registered for their trust in the event. Also to the volunteers who have participated, more than 100 on this occasion, who have helped make the race possible. Finally, thanks to the civil protection, local police and health team that have been decisive for the proper development of the event.

NEXT YEAR
The organisation has announced the return of the competition in 2022, it will be on 13th March 2022. Entries will go on sale in the next few days at a special starting price for the first 100 registered.


THE ORGANISATION
Fundación Calvià 2004 and Calvià Town Hall, through the Institut Calvianer d'Esports (ICE), with the collaboration of the Mallorca Turisme Foundation and the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells, organise this event with two objectives:

To value one of the main assets of the natural heritage of the municipality of Calvià through the organisation of a top-level sporting event.

To offer a proposal of local, national and international interest that serves to attract athletes to the municipality in the low season.
