Calvią's first day at FITUR

Wednesday 19th January 2022

CALVIÀ'S FIRST DAY AT FITUR

Calvià's first day at the FITUR Madrid Tourism Fair, in which mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has predicted a good year for tourism in the municipality. Throughout the morning, the mayor and the general director of Tourism, Xavier Pascuet, held various meetings with companies applied to the tourism industry such as, Segittur (technology), Next Gen project management or regenerative tourism companies. They also held a meeting with the CEO of e|motion, Edwin Weindorfer, the organiser of sporting events as important as those that have taken place in Calvià: ATP Tennis and PGA golf, both in Santa Ponça.

Sports tourism continues to be a main axis of Calvià's tourism strategy, with an investment, in 2022, of more than 800.000 euros in sporting events to boost direct stays and to position all Calvià destinations as ideal places to have sports experiences, by conducting both, these sporting events and/or training camps.

Work continues, likewise, on another axis such as cultural tourism, supporting events such as Mallorca Live Festival, LEM Expanded Literature Festival, or the relaunch of traditional festivals such as the Rei En Jaume Festivities, amongst others. Likewise, the mayor recalled that, starting in Autumn, and linked to historical and cultural heritage, Calvià will benefit from the opening of the Galatzó refuge and the future Sa Morisca Archaeological Museum, which will mean new tourist attractions for the mid-low season.

Tomorrow, within the Fairs' framework, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, as the FEMP Tourism Commission president, will present, together with the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, the SICTED Awards (Comprehensive Spanish Tourism Quality in Destinations System) granted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and the FEMP. In the evening, he will collect the Q 2022 Award that the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE) has awarded Calvià for its commitment to the quality of its beaches, being the municipality with the largest number of certified beaches in all of Spain. The award ceremony will take place at the Galería de Cristal in the Palacio de Cibeles, during the 'Noche Q' celebration.
