Calvią presents the I Environment Awards

MAR DE FONDO, OBRA CULTURAL BALEAR AND CLUB DE MONTAÑA YAÍS, AWARDED WITH THE 2021 CALVIÀ ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS

The 2030 environmental education and sustainability strategy of Calvià Town Hall was presented at the awards ceremony

Within the framework of World Environmental Education Day, on 26th January Calvà Town Hall, through the Environment department, organised a public event at the Sala Palmanova where the Strategy for Environmental Education and Sustainability 2030 was presented and where the Calvià Environment Awards 2021 were awarded, to recognise the efforts and commitment of Calvià society through the environmental work carried out by entities and associations in the municipality.

The award ceremony was presided by the councillor for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, as president of the jury, accompanied by Marta Ferriol, technical director of Tramuntana XXI, and Dr. Samuel Pinya, professor of Biology at the UIB, as members of the jury.

The first prize of 3.000 euros went to the Mar de Fondo association. The jury highlighted the great environmental and social impact of their actions and their ability to mobilise youth towards the conservation of marine resources.

The second prize, of 2.000 euros, was awarded to the Obra Cultural Balear association, for its project “Ses Quarterades que m'agraden”, highlighting innovation and the ability to involve the children of the municipality.

Finally, the third prize, of 1.000 euros, was awarded to the Club de Montaña Yaís association, for the transversality of sports activities, where they introduce environmental education and inclusion.

The event, in which representatives of the associations that were candidates for the awards (Creu Roja, Mar Inquieto, Protemar, Seabin and Sa Sínia) participated, was attended by the deputy mayor for Youth, Participation, Environment and Ecological Transition, Marga Plomer; the deputy mayor for Sports, Eva Serra, and the councillor for Palmanova, Francisca Muñoz.

In the presentation of the Environmental Education and Sustainability Strategy 2030, the general director of Sustainable Development, Francisco Giménez, explained that the initiative is aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the municipality of Calvià and promoting education towards sustainable development, and care for the natural environment and biodiversity.
