Care for women victims of gender violence

Tuesday 10th May 2022

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL AND CONSELL DE MALLORCA PRESENT A COLLABORATION AGREEMENT FOR THE CARE FOR WOMEN VICTIMS OF SEXIST VIOLENCE IN THE MUNICIPALITY

Calvià Town Hall, through the Social Development area, and the Consell de Mallorca, through the insular department of the Presidency, have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of working in a coordinated and collaborative manner between both administrations, for the care for women victims of sexist violence in the municipality of Calvià. This agreement allows to decentralise specialised services such as psychological care for women who suffer or have suffered gender-based violence, thus making these types of services more accessible to these people.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the executive councillor of the Regional Presidency, Javier de Juan, as well as the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the councillor for Social Development, M. Carmen Rojano; the insular director of Equality and Diversity, Rosa Cursach, and the Town Hall's general director of Social Development, Cristina Gamundí.

On behalf of the Town Hall, the department of Social Development will facilitate social care for the women of the municipality, in coordination with the specialised services of the insular directorate for Equality and Diversity, considering essential the figure of the reference social worker who can address needs comprehensively.

Through this agreement, the Town Hall will make available to the specialised services the necessary means to care for women who are victims of gender-based violence directly in the municipality itself.

In 2021, the community municipal social services cared for 126 women victims of sexist violence.

Act of desire, rejection and remembrance of women murdered by sexist violence

On the other hand, the act of desire, rejection and remembrance of women murdered by sexist violence, in which students from CEIP Puig de sa Morisca and Ses Rotes Velles participated, also took place today in Santa Ponça. It is a ceremony that takes place every month in Calvià.

At the end of the ceremony, the collaboration agreement between the Consell de Mallorca and Calvià Town Hall was presented for the inter-institutional work of care for victims of gender violence in the municipality of Calvià.
