Vacaciones en Paz Charity Programme 2023
One more year, Calvià Town Hall will support the summer charity programme Vacaciones en Paz. Vacaciones en Paz is a humanitarian programme of solidarity with the Saharawi people that consists of fostering Saharawi girls and boys by families from the Balearic Islands for two months in Summer.
Fostering is an act of solidarity, not only towards these girls and boys, but also towards their people. In addition, it implies sensitisation of the Mallorcan population with the Western Sahara conflict, which has been going on since 1975, when the Kingdom of Morocco invaded the territory of the Sahara, until then a Spanish colony.
The programme is organised by the Asociación de Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de Baleares (Association of Friends of the Saharawi People of the Balearic Islands) and by the delegation for the Balearic Islands of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and this summer it will last for two months, during July and August.
For two months, these boys and girls live with their foster families and undergo a medical examination to diagnose and treat health issues, thus preventing the development of serious diseases. At the same time, it is an opportunity to approach and share cultures, which enriches both, host family members and the Saharan boys and girls.
Calvià Town Hall collaborates with the host families of the municipality, facilitating conciliation, by offering the municipal summer school or sports campus services for free.
