The Govern authorises the future Vocational Training (FP) centre in Calvià

The Consell de Govern has authorised the agreement with Calvià Town Hall that will allow the construction of a Vocational Training centre that will be a reference throughout the whole of the island of Mallorca. The centre that will be located in Magaluf will host formal vocational training and will also provide vocational training for employed and unemployed people.

CAIB press release:

THE SIGNING OF AN AGREEMENT WITH CALVIÀ TOWN HALL FOR A NEW HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE HAS NOW BEEN AUTHORISED

The Govern will contribute 16 million euros for the construction of a centre that will be a reference for the sector, with a work completion forecast for 2026

The new premises, which will provide vocational training in other professional families in addition to hospitality and tourism, will cover 600 students per course

The Consell de Govern has authorised the Department of Economic Model, Tourism and Labour to sign an agreement with Calvià Town Hall to launch a new integrated vocational training centre (CIFP) in hospitality and tourism in Calvià, which is the first step for this municipality to have a new centre that will be a reference in the entire area of the Majorcan Southwest from 2026. In this agreement, the Govern will contribute 16 million euros that will allow the project and construction of the new building to be carried out.

The design of this new training centre, agreed between the Departments of Education and Vocational Training and Economic Model, Tourism and Labour, has allowed it to be a more versatile centre, in which, in addition to hospitality and tourism, training will also be provided in other professional families, agreed with the economic and social sectors. These trainings correspond to Administrative Management and Commerce; Installation and Maintenance; and Food Industry cycles, which will allow a great boost to the professional training offer.

In addition to formal professional training, the centre will provide professional training for employed people and also for unemployed people, for which reason it is expected that approximately 600 people will be able to train each year at the CIFP in Calvià when it is fully operational.

The training covers all levels, from standard competency recognitions to professional certificates and basic, medium and higher degrees of FP. Specialisation courses training will also be provided. To deploy all this training, it will be built on a total area of 7.200 square metres to accommodate a total of 54 classrooms, workshops and warehouses.

The creation of this new CIFP is part of the deployment that in terms of FP in strategic sectors agreed the second Comprehensive Plan for FP approved by the Govern, through the Departments of Education and Vocational Training; and Economic Model, Tourism and Labour and with the support of the Social Dialogue Board made up of the most representative unions of the Islands. It is also included in the tripartite agreements of the Tourism Law, to expand the specialised training offer, as well as in the last trade agreement of the Balearic Islands, in which it was also agreed to take advantage of the construction of this new centre to include cutting rooms for butchers and fishmongers, another of the demands of the productive sector met with this new facility.
