One more year, the Town Hall grants the programme "Calvià, el invierno europeo" (Calvià, the European winter), managed by the hotel associations in the municipality, with 250.000 euros

One more year, Calvià faces alone its tourist promotion programmes after that the Balearic Government had not granted, for the third consecutive year, the municipality for this purpose, claiming the lack of budget. Nevertheless, and within his fight against the tourist seasonal standstill, the Mayor Carlos Delgado has signed a collaboration agreement with the presidents of the five hotel associations in the municipality, through which the Town Hall grants them with 250.000 euros for the management of the programme "Calvià, el invierno europeo" (Calvià, the European winter); a programme which was started in 1997-98 and since 2003 was subsidized by the Regional Executive.

At first, a financial aid of 360.000 euros was given by the Balearic Government although in the year 2007 and 2008 was reduced to 180.000 euros. However, since then, the Balearic Executive, has relied on the lack of budget in order to not grant Calvià whereas they have been granting other municipalities with less tourist accomodations.

The Mayor has expressed his wish of continuing with this collaboration as, in his opinion, all efforts are necessary to “destationalise”.

"Calvià, el invierno europeo" (Calvià, the European winter) will be carried out, as in previous editions, in the months of January, February, March, April, October, November and December. In virtue of the agreement signed, the hotel associations will design and will carry out a variety of performances such as classical and traditional music concerts, guided walks and excursions by the Galatzó public estate; bicycle rides, nights of jazz/country, etc. and they will advertise and promote them amongst the clients of their corresponding hotel establishments, with tour operators and travel agencies.
