The Town Hall is organizing an informative talk about the actions to be carried out for the control of the red palm weevil, addressed to gardeners and to the general public, for the forthcoming 14th December.
The Calvià Town Hall is organizing, together with the Gardening Companies Balearic Association and the Tree Balearic Association, an informative talk about the actions to be carried out for the control of the red palm weevil, addressed to gardeners and the general public, for the forthcoming Wednesday 14th December, at 18.30 h., at the Town Hall´s exhibition hall.
The open discussion will count with the participation, carried out from the (General Direction of Rural and Sea Environment), as well as with the description of the plague and the appropriate control measures to be taken to stop the best way possible, said plague.
The red palm weevil is a virulent plague which specially affects Date and Canary Palm trees, thus the collaborarion of all the neighbours in the municipality is essential, as the affected palms should be cut and removed.
The first symptom of the affected palm trees is noticed by the deterioration of the superior part of the tree, as the larvae deteriorates the base of the leaves, therefore damaging them and making them fall easyly with a gentle pull.
