A new edition of the Urban Art project, BetArt Calvià 2013, starts

Both, Fundación Calvià 2004 and the Calvià Town Hall open a public official announcement for the selection of artists projects and for the contracting of three commissioners.

Through the terms and conditions, local, national and international artists are called to participate in the BetArt '13, presenting projects for the carrying out of 4 interventions of urban art in walls and in public or private buildings of Calvià.

The contracting of the three commissioners, contemplates that each of them, will have to propose 2 artists, who will have to present an intervention project, individually. Also, the commissioners will be part of the selection committee of the projects presented.

All in all, it is expected that all the proposals of intervention are guarenteed by professionals, providing value and artistic criteria and that the BetArt project, in general, has advice in the development of the complementary activities related to art: conferences, workshops, round tables, etc.

In the same way, the intention is that quality contents in different styles and tones are created, depending on the commissioner selected and according to the intellectual and artistic experience of each of them, writing articles, presentations of the artists and their projects, texts, interviews, posts, etc., providing a higher visibility and comprehension of the project and the art works.

The BetArt´s project final objective is the carrying out of an Open Air Urban Art Museum with art works contextualised in the public space. A museum for the use and the enjoyment of the residents and visitors of the municipality, making Calvià an attractive place for walking through its streets and squares, approaching the art to the citizen in a much more quotidian environment, without doors or timetables.

Once finished the interventions, which will be carried out in the first fortnight of October, Calvià will count with 10 new art works of great dimensions: 4 art works selected by public official announcement, one of them carried out in a non conventional space such as a square, a staircase, urban furniture, etc., plus 6 more art works result of the proposal of the 6 comisssionned artists.

In this second edition, the interventions will be carried out in different buildings and spaces which have been put at BetArt´s disposal in: Magaluf, Palmanova, and Son Caliu. These lent spaces have, in some cases, public ownership as they belong to buildings or public spaces of the Town Hall and in other cases have private ownership such as the Endesa´s electric power station or the walls of apartments and hotel infrastructures achieved, in good part, thanks to the collaboration of the Palmanova-Magaluf Hoteliers Association.

The BetArt project counts with the collaboration of the Agencia de Turismo de las Islas Baleares (ATB) (Balearic Islands Tourism Agency).

You will find the terms and conditions, the information, pictures, and the characteristics of these spaces at the Fundación´s web page www.fundacioncalvia.com and at the municipal web´s BetArt section www.calvia.com/cultura as from 8th July.

The commissioners have until the 18th July to present their commissioner project.

The 14th August is the deadline to present the proposals of the artists, for the ones of the public official announcement and for the ones proposed by the commissioners.
