The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, headed another meeting of the Magaluf´s tourist season follow-up comission

The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, headed yesterday morning another meeting of the Magaluf tourist season's follow-up comission in which took place an exhaustive review of the different problems which affect this area of the municipality where thousands of people concentrate specially during the months of July and August.

The President of the Hotel Association of Palmanova and Magaluf, Sebastián Darder, the responsibles of the representative entities of the complementary offer of Calvià, FETUR and ACOTUR, Luís Marín and José Tirado, respectively, a wide group of representatives of the discoteques of the area and the taxi drivers association, the Lieutenant in charge of the Guardia Civil's headquarters in Palmanova, Francisca Puerto and the Chief of the Local Police of Calvià, José Antonio Navarro, as well as other municipal responsibles of all the departments involved in the good functioning of the services for the tourists and residents of the area, attended the event amongst others.

During the meeting, the Mayor informed the attendees of the actions which are being carried out in Punta Ballena in terms of circulation, surveillance, security and drainage and sewage network.

Amongst said actions, are to be highlighted, for instance, the lighting of the Magaluf beach which it will be a reality before the forthcoming Summer, the construction of a new path which will facilitate the residents their access to the area, the supply of an impeller station which will avoid the direct spill of dirty waters to the sea or the increase of police patrols in the high season, a series of actions which its budget reaches the amount of 1.400.000 euros and which have been valued positively by the group of people attending the meeting. Also, it has been decided to increase the efforts in the eradication of practices such as the pub crowling and the boat parties while they are thoroughly working in the fight against prostitution, the compliance of the municipal bylaws and the prevention of balconing situations.

These gatherings regularly take place every year, before and after the season and sometimes, if they consider it appropiate, they take place even during the course of the season.

The main objective of these gatherings is no other than to achieve an agreement amongst all the attendees in order to face without divisions the problems which normally are produced in a tourist destination of a remarkable youth interest such as Magaluf. The next meeting will be held predictably after Easter.
