54 new police officers to take care of security in Calvià.
The Mayor of Calvià; Carlos Delgado; the Deputy Mayor responsible for public security, Bartolomé Bonafé, and the director general of the Balearic Islands' Interior Ministry, Joan Rotger, will present the new police resources, who will join the local police force this summer and whose priority objective will be to ensure public security and peaceful coexistence among residents of Calvià and visitors
In total, 54 officers will join for the summer campaign, of whom 44 are tourist police; 6 are new senior officers and 4 are part-time officers. At the presentation of the new resources, the scheme begun to provide 11 new cameras in the most difficult areas of the Peguera estate, involving a cost of €225,000, was also highlighted.
A report was also given on the results of the control exercised last summer on street prostitution. On this matter, the Mayor indicated that 127 actions were taken, translated into 33 arrests and, for the moment, 11 convictions.
The amendment to the by-laws allowing the more effective control in the near future of conduct in the street generating public insecurity and nuisance should also be remembered. In this respect, it was highlighted that drinks could be confiscated and that it would be possible to ban people causing a nuisance from remaining in the street or in public places.
