The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, held a meeting at the Town Hall with the vicepresident and the Regional Minister for Tourism, Biel Barceló, within the frame of visits undertaken in the main tourist municipalities of the islands. This is the second meeting held within a continuous line of dialogue and collaboration.

Rodríguez Badal highlighted the importance of working towards the tourist quality, through the renovation of the areas, searching a second tourist conversion with the investments that should accompany the declaration of mature tourist areas. In this sense, he highlighted that, it has to be capable to find financing not only from the administrations but also from the business sector in order that the associated offer can also walk towards quality parameters as the hotel infrastructure is already doing.

The Mayor also highlighted three important actions for the municipality of Calvià: the need of regulating the All Inclusive, with certain quality levels, and with the exclusion of alcoholic drinks (except some unit in the main meals); the necessity of modifying the Tourist General Law, also, in order that the town halls can recuperate their autonomy in terms of urban planning; and the necessity of modernising the tourist product to make the destination attractive in the low season.

Both, the Mayor and the Regional Minister also stated that the works in Magaluf Avenue and in the Eucaliptus St. in Peguera could start in November in order they can be finished for the start of the forthcoming tourist season.

In terms of security, Biel Barceló evaluated positively the evolution of the most trouble spots of this season which will revert in the forthcoming years.

The Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, the Deputy Mayor for Security, Andreu Serra, the Director General for Tourism, Pilar Carbonell and the technical advisor of the Regional Council, Antonio Sansó, were also at the meeting.
