The athletics track of Magaluf 'will hang the poster of sold out' from the beginning of March until the mid of May. It will host different European teams and sportspeople.
It is expected that the Magaluf athletics track will shelter between 2nd March and 16th May an average of 140 athletes per day, with peaks of 220- totalling about 8,200 uses. Athletes from all over Europe, some of them with the objective of getting fit for the Olympic Games in Rio, will use the municipal facilities as a training centre.
Most part of the reservations come from Germany, the UK and Austria, and to a lesser extent from Finland, Norway and Denmark, amongst other countries. The profile of users is diverse, such as amateur sports groups wanting to do a training 'stage', national teams or athletic clubs. In all cases, the objective is the same: improve the set-up to face the season in a place that offers the best guarantees due to the good weather conditions of the island and the excellent sports facilities available in the municipality.
With the aim of contributing from the sport field to the tourist development of the municipality in times of seasonality, from the Institut Calvianer d'Esports it is working not only to promote the use of facilities such as the Magaluf athletics track by athletes from other countries but it also puts the spotlight on the development of international sports events that contribute to place Calvià as a training and competition destination for European athletes in the mid and low season.
