The Community Police will start-up from October and there will be new divisions such as Gender Violence, Traffic and Activities

THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL WILL TAKE TO NEXT PLENARY SESSION THE DECREE THAT ALLOWS A NEW ORGANIZATION OF THE LOCAL POLICE

With its entry into operation on the forthcoming month of October, new units will start-up, such as the Community Police, and new divisions, such as Gender Violence, Traffic or Activities

The Calvià Town Hall's government team will inform, in April's plenary session, of the Local Police's Organizational Decree that restructures the organization of the department with the creation of new Units and Divisions, with the aim of boosting the Local Police as a municipal service, and increasing its prevention-oriented and problem-solving activity. In conclusion: progress towards a police with a more preventive than reactive approach.

Thus, the Local Police of Calvià will count on an organizational decree that will delimit the roles of each Unit and Division, as well as the functions of the Chief of Police and Services Inspection.

The Decree introduces novelties such as the start-up of the Community Police Unit, and the creation of the Activites, VIOGEN (gender violence) and Traffic Divisions.

Each Unit will be headed by an inspector, who will have the treatment of Head of Unit, and who will functionally assume the responsibility of "mando de semana" (week officer) as the service's utmost operating responsible during the week of guard.

The Units make up, in turn, the various Divisions, 9 in total, which will be led by deputy inspectors:

Community Police Unit:

-East Division

-West Division

Operative Unit:

-Multipurpose Division

-Night Division

Support Unit:

-Reports Division

-Citizen Service Division

-VIOGEN Division (new)

-Activities Division (new)

-Traffic Division (new)

The first novelty taken into account in the organization chart is the creation of a Community Police Unit which mission will be to meet the security needs of the community, integrating into the social fabric through strategies of visibility, stability, accessibility, proximity and teamwork with an oriented problem solving approach.

The organizational structure of the Community Police is based on the figure of neighbourhood team that will be assigned to a particular territory (sector), which in turn will be divided into several areas (population areas). The different teams will be integrated into a Division (East and West).

Another novelty introduced in the new structure is the creation of the VIOGEN Division, which will develop and promote the actions established by the future Protocol of incorporation of the Local Police of Calvià into the Comprehensive System in the cases of gender violence.

The Activities Division was created with the mission to monitor the compliance of the municipal ordinances, the legislation of activities, the planning regulations and other related regulations. It will provide technical support to the Community Police in their tasks of enforcement of ordinances, and will collaborate with the Department of Activities of the Town Hall, and with the relevant municipal departments in checking the complaints received.

Finally, a Traffic Division is created which will have among its functions: monitor and enforce traffic and road safety regulations, conduct breathalyser and speed tests, cover entry and exit of students in schools, plan and actively participate in traffic operations on the occasion of sporting, recreational or cultural events, and participate in education and prevention of traffic accidents and good practices when driving campaigns addressed to youth groups, etc.

The municipal government team will inform of the organizational decree in the Plenary session of the month of April. The new structure of the Local Police of Calvià will be operational from October 2016.
