PRESENTATION OF THE LET'S CLEAN UP EUROPE CAMPAIGN

The Mayor of Calvia, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has attended together with the Regional Minister for the Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries, Vicenç Vidal, the presentation of the campaign Let's Clean Up Europe that is taking place during the first half of May in Calvià.

The Mayor and the Minister have visited the Biological Critical Area of Magaluf (wetland) where the Town Hall and the Red Cross have suggested a cleaning activity under the European programme, with the aim to raise awareness on waste disposal in an uncontrolled manner in nature.

The presentation was also attended by the first Deputy Mayor, Andreu Serra; the third Deputy Mayor, Nati Francés; Councillor for Trade and Environmental Activities, Francisca Muñoz; Councillor for the Magaluf area, Alfonso Molina; and the Councillors for Esquerra Oberta, Rafel Sedano and Alfonso Rodriguez Sanchez, besides the General Director for Environmental Education, Environmental Quality and Waste of the Balearic Island Government, Sebastià Sanso; and the Regional Director for Health, Emrgencies and Environment of the Red Cross, Victòria Abellà.

The Town Hall of Calvià, together with other entities, is involved in the Let's Clean Up Europe programme, that is coordinated by the Balearic Islands Government.

Through the Environment Department of the Town Hall, a series of activities have been scheduled during the first half of May that started with a cleaning and reforestation in the public estate of Galatzó last Sunday, by the Down Friends organization, and the cleaning Friday 6th of May by volunteers of the Red Cross, with the collaboration of Calvia 2000.

These are the following actions that have been scheduled:


IES Bendinat action:

About 30 Obligatory Secondary Education (ESO) students will clean in public gardened areas.

Zoea and Peguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association action:

Seabed cleaning, with a 60 participants prediction


Let's Clean Up Europe is a common action across Europe to raise awareness of the amount of waste being thrown out of control into nature, and to promote the collection of such rubbish that is illegally dumped in forests, beaches, river banks, etc.
