GOOD FORECASTS AT THE WORLD TRAVEL MARKET OF LONDON WHERE CALVIÀ HAS CONFIRMED THE INCREASE OF TOURISTS IN THE MID-LOW SEASON AND THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE FAMILY TOURISM GROWTH
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, heads Calvià's delegation at the World Travel Market of London, to which attended along by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, and the Director General of Tourism and Strategic Projects of the Town Hall, Joan Mesquida.
On Tuesday they held a meeting with the new Director of the Tourism Office in London, Javier Piñares, with whom they renewed the collaboration commitments with Calvià in the line of managing communication issues in origin and the image of the destination.
They also met with the Mayors of Lloret de Mar, Salou and Torremolinos; Jaume Dulsat, Pere Granados and José Ortiz respectively, and with the manager of Visit Benidorm, Leire Bilbao, with whom they considered common issues affecting mature tourism destinations, such as financing, promotion, relations with tour operators, benchmarking actions and the complexity of tourism management issues such as tourist accommodation, amongst others. The purpose of the meeting was to build synergies and exchange experiences and knowledge, and the idea is to continue this first meeting and to be reconvened soon to assess joint actions. These municipalities lead the list of the main sun and beach tourist destinations, and in total they move 45 million overnight stays.
Throughout the morning they had different meetings with representatives of tour operators and travel agencies.
The Association of British Travel Agents, ABTA, as it happened in last year's meeting, has been interested in both private and public actions that are being carried out in Calvià, specifically in the area of Magaluf. It has also shown interest in knowing the activities that are carried out in the municipality of Calvià in the mid-low season and the aspects that allow segmenting the product. ABTA's Director of Destinations and Sustainability, Nikki White, has informed Calvià delegation that for the mid-low season (from November to April) there will be a 36% increase for Mallorca, and a 14% increase during the peak season. She has also pointed to a rise in family tourism, a data which coincides with the forecasts of the hotel association of Palmanova-Magaluf that have indicated a rise in family tourism, adults and couples, in comparison with young tourism that decreases.
In the meeting with the company Jet 2, its representatives informed of the introduction of two new routes with Mallorca from the south of the United Kingdom (Stansted and Birmingham) and from Belfast. Jet 2 is increasing its presence on the island: in October 2015 they sold 42.000 seats; 47.000 in 2016 and have a forecast of 69.000 in 2017. Calvià has held other meetings these days with Tui-Thomson, Travel Republic, On the Beach and Elite Travel, in which they talked about undertaking comarketing campaigns with family, sports, nature, gastronomy tourism segments etc., especially in the mid-low season.
