MEETINGS AT FITUR WITH DIRECTORS OF TOURIST OFFICES
Calvià organises a Press Trip and reaffirms its line of product diversification and progress towards the improvement of the quality of the destination and its services
The delegation of Calvià Town Hall has completed its presence at FITUR with a round of meetings with the directors of the Spanish Tourist Offices in Russia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Italy.
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, and the General Director of Tourism and Strategic Projects of the Town Hall, Juan Mesquida, proposed these meetings with the intention of knowing the profile of the tourist, especially from northern Europe and explore the possibility of diversifying the source markets with the aim of extending the season by offering new products in the low season.
In fact, and in this context, a Press Trip is organised in Calvià with media from Sweden -tabloids, widely distributed magazines and travel magazines-, a country that in 2016 recorded 25% more tourists to Mallorca. Other countries such as Denmark, Germany or Norway are also registering significant increases, both in high season and some also in the low season, which are around 22 percent.
The directors of the offices were very interested in the event to be held in Calvià: the Smart Island World Congress and Exhibition which, thanks to Fira de Barcelona, will gather in the municipality about 1,500 people from more than 70 cities around the world who will be invited to this world congress.
At the meetings, it became clear that, in general lines, northern Europe tourists seek new experiences related to hiking, sport, culture and the quality of services, lines in which the Town Hall is working with the hiking routes that are recovering in the public estate of Galatzó, meetings and sports stays and other actions with the aim of lengthening the tourist season in the municipality that is already starting to take off.
