CALVIÀ 2000, TOWN HALL OF CALVIÀ AND RED CROSS COLLABORATE WITH THE CAMPAIGN #NoMásColillasEnElSuelodelasPlayasdeMallorca
Volunteers from these organizations will participate in butt collection on the Es Carregador beach (Palmanova), on the 18th at 17.00 h
The municipal public company Calvià 2000, the Town Hall of Calvià and the Environmental area of the Red Cross in the Balearic Islands, will collaborate with the citizens' butt collection initiative #NoMásColillasEnElSuelodelasPlayasdeMallorca, which will take place next Friday 18th August at 17:00 hours, on the Es Carregador beach of Palmanova.
Specifically, volunteers from the three organizations will participate collecting cigarette butts from the sand, along with people who sympathize with the @nomascolillasenelsuelo (Facebook) citizens' community, founded by Mallorcan citizen Miquel Garau, and aimed at raising awareness of the population that smoke about the need to take responsibility for the waste generated when smoking and not leave it abandoned in public areas.
Creu Roja just so happens to have an educational and environmental awareness project on the Calvià coast which includes waste collection on beaches and the handing out of reusable ashtrays. Given the coincidence of objectives between these actions, and the butt collection, it has been decided to join forces and work together on the Es Carregador beach.
It is important to remember that the activities of the Red Cross in Calvià are financed by the benefits of the reusable glasses distribution and recovery system during the Mallorca Live Festival 2017, from the agreement between Calvià 2000, Hidrobal and the organiser of the event, that delivered 50 cents of each glass to the Red Cross.
With this contribution, Red Cross develops on the Portals Vells, Magaluf, Palmanova, Santa Ponça and Oratori beaches informative actions on the posidonia oceanica and the anchorages of boats, and sensitisation and environmental education actions directed to the reduction of residues on the coast.
