CALVIÀ 2000 HAS COLLECTED 2,530 TONS OF BULKY WASTE IN 2017
The total volume of bulky waste collected by Calvià 2000 during the year 2017 has been 2,530.18 tons, which represents a reduction that barely reaches 1% compared to the previous year. This figure includes both the bulky ones - waste, construction waste and household appliances - that are home collected, by prior appointment requested by the citizens of Calvià, as well as those abandoned on the public thoroughfare, and also those that are taken to the Deixalleria or green point by the residents of the municipality.
Of these wastes, 1,084.2 tons correspond to debris (8% less than in 2016) and 1,249.81 tons of waste. In waste, unlike debris, the evolution has been increasing, with 1% more in the total weight of waste collected. The debris and bulky waste are delivered to the company MAC Insular for their treatment, and for their management in 2017 have been paid almost 295,000 euros.
The collection of household appliances, both abandoned and with collection requested by prior appointment, has added 195,253 tons in 2017, which reflects an increase of 39% compared to those collected during the previous year. February and November are the months that have registered the largest volumes of bulky waste collection, with 237.5 and 233.4 tons, respectively, coinciding this greater activity with the same months of last year.
Prior appointment for the collection of waste
Residents in Calvià can request the collection of waste and pruning by calling, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the phone number 971 699 202 or, if they prefer, they can take them to the Deixalleria, from Monday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in 31 Illes Balears St., at the Son Bugadelles Industrial Estate.
At the Deixalleria the following waste can be taken: paper-cardboard, flat glass, metals and junk, bulky (furniture and mattresses, clothes, appliances, etc.), tires out of use of cars and bicycles, pruning waste, palm pruning (not affected by red palm weevil), household construction and demolition waste, as well as domestic hazardous waste (alkaline and button batteries, expired paints, fluorescents, contaminated metal and plastic containers, batteries, vegetable oil, mineral oil, absorbents, toners, etc.).
It must be recalled that the infractions for spills are classified as serious and very serious, so that offenders can be charged with penalties ranging from 901 to 45,000 euros in the case of serious, and from 45,000 to 301,000 euros in the case of very serious infractions. The abandonment of waste could also violate Law 22/2011 on waste and contaminated soil, which establishes fines, in the case of very serious infractions (abandonment that entails serious danger or damage to the health of the people, serious deterioration for the environment, hazardous waste or dumping in protected areas), from 45,001 to 1,750,000 euros.
