A TOTAL OF 62 SPORTSPEOPLE FROM CALVIÀ RECEIVE THE SUBSIDIES OF THE BED PLAN

-52% of applications correspond to women's sports
-Stand Up Paddle, trampoline and athletics are the most representative sports
-This aid allows athletes to finance the expenses involved in the high-level sports activity

Calvià Town Hall held yesterday afternoon the subsidies presentation event for individual athletes of the municipality with regards to sporting merit. The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the deputy mayor for Sports, Eva Serra, presented at the Sala Palmanova, the subsidies of the Bed Plan (Elite Sports Scholarships) to the 62 athletes who have opted for the 2017 call and who have obtained the necessary points to obtain the help.

This line of grants is intended to help athletes who are in the training and /or technification process and who outstand in the sport they practice, but also those over 21 who already have a prominent curriculum, such as Olympic athletes or those competing at the state, European or world levels. This year, as in the previous call, a line item of 45,000 euros has been allocated, thus helping athletes to finance the expenses involved in the high-level sport activity.

In this edition, 52% of the requests corresponded to women's sports, a fact that highlights the work carried out by the Institut Calvianer d'Esports (ICE) to promote equality of gender opportunities in sport. The majority of requests, specifically 81.25%, are equivalent to grants
of athletes who practice individual sports. The Stand Up Paddel, trampoline (gymnastics), athletics and swimming are the sports that have most representativeness amongst all sports modalities that have been presented such as karate, triathlon, water polo, canoeing, table tennis, synchronised swimming, archery, kickboxing, sailing and football.

The Mayor highlighted the effort and sacrifice of the athletes and their families, while the deputy mayor for Sports congratulated the athletes for their sporting success and pointed out that these scholarships demonstrate Calvià's commitment to sport.

The valuation of the different applications has been made in accordance with the terms and conditions that regulate this call, in which the scoring criteria are published, so that all athletes who have applied for a grant have been able to opt for it under the same conditions. The participation in official championships regulated by the corresponding sports federations, the participation in national teams and the classification in international, national and autonomous official championships have been valued.
