INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

THE TUTOR POLICE TALKS BEGIN IN THE EDUCATIONAL CENTRES OF CALVIÀ

One of the new workshops given by the officers focuses on reporting the dangers of sexting through mobile devices

Tutor police officers of Calvià have resumed this week the training at schools in the municipality. Until Christmas, 16 sessions will be given on safe Internet, road safety education, evacuation drills and, as a novelty, the Share workshop. This training works aspects of the use of the mobile phone and is aimed at students of secondary education, especially in 4th year and Baccalaureate, since most have and use the mobile phone daily.

Through the viewing of a video of the Share workshop, the students will be able to identify the risk faced by the different characters of the film and reflect on the criminal and social consequences that may result. Amongst other aspects, the guardian police officers will raise security attitudes to be taken in a preventive manner, especially about sexting. That is, about the sending of sexual content (mainly photographs and / or videos) usually produced by the youths themselves, to other people through mobile phones. According to the National Cybersecurity Institute, 8.1% of Spanish teenagers say they have received photos or videos of well-known boys or girls on their mobile phones in a sexy posture. Teenagers who send sexting do so mainly because someone asks for it or for fun, but also to impress someone or to feel good (self-affirmation).

The duration of the Share workshop is usually between one and a half and two hours, and the methodology is based on each character has a sheet with questions related to their attitude. The key concepts are criminal responsibility, group pressure, empathy, self-esteem, self-protection, communication in situations of risk, etc.
