CALVIÀ TOWN HALL CELEBRATES ONE YEAR SINCE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A REGULATION FOR COMPLIANCE WITH GOOD PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES IN VISUAL ARTS

The Instruction for the Use of the Town Hall's Exhibition Halls regulates the different aspects of exhibition management as well as the regulation of exhibition fees, amongst others

In 2022, the first year of the implementation of the Instruction for the Use of Calvià Town Hall's Exhibition Rooms will be celebrated, as a commitment and guarantee of good professional practices in Visual Arts.

The instruction regulates, amongst others, the evaluation and selection criteria for the proposals, the payment of exhibition fees, the formalisation of a contract between the parties and the fulfillment and recognition of authorship rights. The regulation is applicable in the municipal exhibition halls managed by the Town Hall's Culture Department, as well as in their programming and in the exhibition requests and proposals that request their use.

Calvià Town Hall has, amongst its objectives, the support of artists and the dissemination and promotion of art in the municipality, amongst other ways, through the periodic programming of temporary exhibitions in the exhibition halls and that combines municipal production exhibitions, external-production travelling exhibitions and private individual exhibitions requested. In order to ratify these objectives, and optimise their management and procedures, were consulted and had as references guides, models and ethical codes of associations and institutions of visual artists, as well as the current legislation on the authors and authoresses rights. Likewise, advice was requested and received from the Association of Visual Artists of the Balearic Islands (AAVIB), given that as a public administration and cultural agent, collaboration between local cultural entities is considered essential to achieve a good cultural policy.

In March 2021, the mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, signed the instruction that also establishes the evaluation criteria and the selection process for the projects. Calvià Town Hall, through the Culture Department, has been applying this code of good practices since last year in the different exhibitions that have been held, despite the restrictions due to the health situation.
