REI EN JAUME FESTIVITIES 2023
The institutional event will take place on Thursday 31st August, with the mayor's speech and the proclamation's reading by chef Fernando Arellano

The Rei En Jaume festivities 2023 begin with several activities and the participation of the Moors and Christians groups. The institutional event commemorating the 794th anniversary of Jaume I landing in Santa Ponça will take place on Thursday 31st August. The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, will offer a speech at the Santa Ponça Cross. at 8 p.m. The festivities proclamation this year will be in charge of the renowned chef Fernando Arellano, who has two Michelin stars and who in his creations is committed to local products and innovation. The event will end with the floral offering by the different associations and entities of the municipality.
On Saturday 2nd September, the XXII Trobada de Gegants (giant's gathering) will be held, which will end in the pinewood square, where the joint dance of all the groups will also take place after parading down the Puig de Galatzó avenue. This year there is the visit and participation of the gegants (giants) from Malgrat de Mar, from Girona.
The tradition: the parade and the final battle
The tradition will meet again on Sunday 3rd September, in the pinewood square, with the banners handover to the groups of Moors and Christians and the presentation of the kings of the festivities, King Jaume I and King Abu Yahya. It is a theatrical and musical show, written and directed by Bartomeu Ignasi Oliver Vidal, in which all the groups of the Rei En Jaume festivities in 2023 participate, as well as the Calvià Municipal Music Band, the Gegants and the Cavallers (knights) from Calvià.
On Tuesday 5th September, there will be the long-awaited Nit de Foc (fire performance), the show that will turn the Santa Ponça promenade into a place for demons and mythological and extraordinary beings to meet. The traditional medieval market will be installed from 7th to 10th September.
Finally, on Saturday 9th September, the Jaume I troops will disembark at the Santa Ponça Cross, to later parade, together with the Saracen groups, and have their first battle at Caló d'en Pellisser. The Ball dels Escamots will begin the negotiations between the two kings, which will end by encouraging the troops for the final battle. A fireworks display will close the Rei En Jaume festivities on Sunday 10th September.
