Calvià revalidates the Q for Tourist Quality in 15 beaches, the third municipality in Spain with the most flags

The municipality consolidates itself as a leader: of every 5 kilometres of award-winning beaches in Mallorca, more than 1 corresponds to Calvià

This year, 2023, Calvià revalidates the 15 Q flags for Tourism Quality awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE) of the 42 achieved in the Balearic Islands, 647 in Spain. The award-winning beaches are: Buganvilla, Illetes Balneario, Cala Comtesa, Cala Portals Nous, Oratori, Es Carregador, Palmanova, Son Maties, Santa Ponça, Magaluf, Cala Vinyes, Cala de ses Penyes Roges (El Toro), La Romana, Torà (Peguera) and Palmira. Together they add up to 4.3 kilometres of beaches of recognised quality of the 20 kilometres of Mallorca.

To obtain a Q flag, it is necessary to pass an audit that evaluates the requirements demanded by the ICTE regarding maintenance tasks, improvement of facilities and services and their continuity over time. Calvià's 15 flags place the municipality in third place nationally, only behind Marbella (19) and Sanxenxo (16).

Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual has pointed out that "the continued effort in the commitment to quality places Calvià as one of the tourist references in Spain and the western Mediterranean. "We are so in terms of the quality of services on our coastline as well as in other aspects related to sustainable tourism and safe leisure." He has insisted on the willingness to persevere in such efforts and on the "importance of maintaining the beaches as one of our main attractions at the level of what tourists and residents demand." This is also possible thanks to the commitment of the beach managers to whom we must thank for their work.

The deputy mayor responsible for Tourism, Beaches and Coastline, Elisa Monserrat, has stressed the value of the Q flags recognition, which "demonstrates Calvià's commitment to excellence and quality": "it is proof of how the municipality improves every day, how it remains at the forefront of tourism. And that is precisely what we need to work on in winter, to take all the information about Calvià to the tourist fairs. Our first stop will be in November at the World Travel Market in London.

In June 2001, Calvià Town Hall launched a Comprehensive Management System for the municipality's beaches to coordinate all the activities carried out on the beaches in an integrated manner. Since then, different initiatives have been developed that have allowed the implementation of a Management System. Whether by direct management or through the beach managers who operate the facilities on a temporary basis through public tender, the following services must be guaranteed: the showers cleaning and their opening and closing at the established schedule; placement and maintenance of wooden walkways; rental of hammocks, beach umbrellas and water sports; sand surface cleaning; installation of beacons; rescue and lifeguards; and leisure services.
