CALVIÀ JOINS WOMEN WRITERS' DAY
In this edition, Calvià Libraries propose a reading of texts selected by the writer Marta Sanz in Calvià Town Hall's hall
In addition, on Monday there will also be support for the "Únete contra el cáncer de mama" campaign with an information table and sale of charity products.
One more year, Calvià joins in the commemoration of Women Writers' Day, which is held tomorrow Monday, 16th October. The objective of this event is to vindicate the task and legacy of women writers throughout History and this year's motto is “Women's pleasure, joy and laughter”. The tribute, promoted by the National Library of Spain, consists of reading a series of fragments selected by the writer Marta Sanz.
Calvià Libraries have participated in this tribute to women writers since the first edition. Tomorrow, Monday, the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, will open the celebration event at 10:30 a.m. with the reading of a chosen text. Next, authorities, public, civil servants, residents of the Llar de Calvià and third cycle students of Ses Quarterades School in Calvià will also be able to join and read out.
Women Writers' Day is a day that vindicates the role of women as creators of culture. It must be taken into account that just a few decades ago many women signed with a male pseudonym in order to be able to participate in literary competitions or have their works published.
On the other hand, Calvià Town Hall and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) come together to raise awareness on breast cancer and promote the importance of timely and effective controls, diagnoses and treatments for women. To commemorate this day, the AECC will install an information and sale of products table from the "Únete contra el cáncer de mama" campaign in front of the Town Hall's door on Monday 16th October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Association will have Bibiana Lattuca, Volunteer coordinator, who will be accompanied by two committed volunteers, Emi Ortus and Antonia Siquier.
In addition, Calvià Town Hall will place a banner with a pink ribbon as a sign of solidarity and support. This global initiative, promoted by the World Health Organization and held annually on 19th October, seeks to raise public awareness on the relevance of early detection and the fight against breast cancer.
