The 'Meteolab' workshop on meteorology and climate comes to Calvià.

  • Students from Ses Quarterades and Ses Rotes Velles primary schools will participate in the activity, to be held from 31st March to 1st April
  • In the workshop, taught by researchers from the Institute of Geosciences (CSIC-UCM), concepts related to atmospheric and climate physics will be explained through experiments
  • The municipality is hosting this activity as part of the Ciudad Ciencia outreach project, promoted by the CSIC in collaboration with 59 Spanish municipalities

What is the greenhouse effect? or, how do air masses move? These are some of the questions that will be answered by the meteorology and climate workshop "Meteolab," which will be held in Calvià on 31st March and 1st April as part of the Ciudad Ciencia (City of Science) science outreach project, promoted by the Spanish National Scientific Research Council (CSIC), with sessions aimed at Ses Quarterades and Ses Rotes Velles primary school students.

This workshop, developed and taught by research staff from the Institute of Geosciences (CSIC-UCM), invites participants to discover the geosciences in a fun and participatory way.

It consists of a series of workshops in which fundamental concepts about atmospheric and climate physics will be explained through simple experiments.

Amongst the activities, participants will learn about aspects related to climate change, wind, pressure and temperature, precipitation and clouds or the ocean.

Ciudad Ciencia was launched in March 2012 and has the collaboration of 59 municipalities to provide residents of Spanish towns with firsthand knowledge of current scientific and technological developments.
