- It is now being renovated and will open its doors in the summer
Calvià Town Hall has acquired the former Ca Ses Monges convent in Es Capdellà. The deed of purchase was formalised on Friday for a value of 544.000 euros in favour of the Franciscan Sisters Daughters of Mercy. Thus, the emblematic building of the Calvià area passes into the hands of the citizens to be renovated and used by the public. Ca Ses Monges is a three-storey stone manor house listed as an Architectural Asset in the PGOU (General Urban Development Plan) of the municipality. It occupies the corner between the streets of Les Monges and Ametllers. It has 655 square metres of built space. Since 2012 it has been considered an architectural asset.
With the acquisition of the property, Es Capdellà and Calvià gain a new space for public use. The mayor Juan Antonio Amengual has assured that the acquisition "responds to a request from the residents that had been working on for years and that was frustrated in the previous legislature. We are very happy and we thank the Franciscan Sisters for the facilities and they have respected the pre-agreed conditions". Ca Ses Monges will offer a public space mainly for young people. The councillor for the area, Jaime Bujosa, has indicated that the work to adapt the property will begin as soon as possible so that "this summer it will be available for young people. Then, we will undertake a more in-depth reform with the idea that it can remain open all year round".
