Calvià concedes a house to ASNIMO.

 

Calvià Town Hall has conceded, within the Programme of Comprehensive Attention for the Disabled, the use of a municipal house, situated in Calvià village, to the Down's Syndrome Association of the Balearics (ASNIMO), with the objective of providing a place where they can learn to live an independent life, as part of their personal development and integration in society.


The concession of this property was confirmed this morning, by the signing of an agreement between Mayor Carlos Delgado and Juan Perera, a representative of ASNIMO. This property will be the location for ASNIMO's project "Independent Life", a programme for entertainment, independence in the home and the acquisition of social skills. The objective is to improve the quality of life of this group of people, preparing them to live independent and active lives, fully integrated in society.


The concession of the property, for a period of 15 years, is added to the list of many other municipal services which have been put into action by the Calvià Town Hall within the Programme of Comprehensive Attention for the Disabled. Included are, specialised social attention, the integration of children in summer school, a summer class for adolescents, support and self-help groups for parents and carers, transport to special education centres, help and transport to the beaches in summer, home help service or tele-assistance at home.


By the same token, free membership is available for the use of municipal sports centres and special swimming lessons, as well as programmes of extra tuition for pupils at both infant and primary school, and integration programmes for children with special education needs at nursery school. There is also a support service for formation and work integration, provided by the IFOC; various discounts for travel ; 50% discount for any disabled person and their companion for any acts, courses, workshops, concerts etc., organised by the Department of Culture & Youth. Finally, the construction of public protection houses, adapted for physically handicapped persons, the concession of another municipally owned property, in 2006, "the Aliga centre" for the Association of Disabled Persons of Calvià (ASDICA); the Association of Parents of Disabled Children of Calvià (ASPADICA) and the Association of Parents of Autistic Children of the Balearics (APNAB).
