Health, safety and cleanliness have increased, alongside improved facilities provided by the service companies, thus saving the Town Hall a considerable amount

Calvià Town Hall has awarded the tenders for the seasonal services on Calvià's beaches by way of a new system, which has resulted in the acquisition of 5 million euros from the service companies nominated to provide said facilities over the next 15 years. This sum can be used for different types of investment within the municipality.

Actually, most of the beach services and facilities are up and running. Sunbeds and sunshades are now in place on Magaluf beach, whilst negotiations are under way, albeit in the final stages.

The new procedure undertaken this year for services on Calvià's beaches makes for a vast improvement for beach users – both residents and visitors alike, given that health, safety and cleanliness, in addition to maintenance of coastal areas, have much improved and has the added bonus of cutting costs for the Town Hall, which, in the past, assumed the cost of several of the services offered.

Included in the responsibilities and improvements which the service company is obliged to undertake are a thorough weekly cleaning of sunbeds and walkways, in addition to the routine daily beach cleaning and removal of bio-degradable objects from the sea and sea-shore. Regular checks must be made of the specified, cordoned off bathing areas and daily maintenance carried out on ramps, walkways and beach access to facilitate access/igress for disabled users.

It is also their obligation to install access routes to the sea on those beaches that authorise it and provide first aid and life guard services. Therefore each beach franchise has been responsible for contracting life guards, as stipulated in the royal decree which establishes minimum safety requirements for every beach within the Balearic community.

Finally, despite the delay in obtaining the permits for these services from the coastal authority, the Town Hall had done the ground work so that the services could be put into action the day after receiving said permits. The first tenders to be awarded were for the beaches of Peguera, Santa Ponça and Palmanova, followed by Portals Vells, Cala Falcó, Cala Vinyes, Cala Comtessa, s'Oratori and Portals Nous, as well as for water sports on Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Palmanova and Son Maties beaches.
